Bio

Bernadette C. Profeta, MD, FACS, is a board certified general surgeon who specializes in minimally-invasive surgery, advanced laparoscopic foregut (reflux, achalasia and paraesophageal hernias), colon and solid organ surgery, laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repairs. She also performs gastrointestinal and general surgery procedures.

Dr. Profeta joined the East Orlando location from Our Lady of Lourdes Health System in Camden, New Jersey, where she served as the Director of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. Prior to that she worked in a tertiary care clinical academic practice at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia performing general, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery and where she served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery involved in resident education.  

A graduate of St. Joseph's University, she received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Profeta also completed a general surgery internship and residency there, and was honored with awards like the Goracci Teaching Award for Chief Residents and the Chief Resident Hands of a Surgeon Award. Following completion of her fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA, Dr. Profeta served as an Instructor in Surgery.

She is a member of numerous surgical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, Society for Laparoendoscopic Surgery, Association of Academic Surgeons and the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Dr. Profeta has authored a number of abstracts and publications in the field of minimally invasive surgery, and was named a “Top Doc” by SJ Magazine.
